After the election I avoided all “news”. I’ve only been able to cope with the current political climate in the form of Samantha Bee, Trevor Noah and Alec Baldwin. And even in the context of humor, it’s still not easy to digest! I’m getting through it on ginger dark chocolate, hot yoga, and the company of your delightful children!

There is something rather poignant, ironic even, that in the same week we celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jnr...

This past Sunday at Goddess Class for ages 3 - 6 we made these beautiful Chakra Flags representing the different chakras. Some of the little ones just painted the flags random colors, and the older kids painted the chakra colors as we discussed what each one of them represented.

You will need:

Watercolor Paper

Watercolor Paints

Paint Brush

Ombre Hemp Cord

Scissors

Hole punch

Multi colored jewels (optional)

Cut out seven even triangles from the watercolor paper and thread a long piece of...

Sukey and the Mermaid

By Robert D. San Souci & Illustrated by Brian Pinkey

In this African American folktale, Sukey runs away to her secret place by the ocean. There, she calls up Mama Jo, a beautiful black mermaid. Mama Jo's got a surprise for Sukey; a magical kingdom beneath the sea without time or pain. But it's also without people. Is it really better than the world above? (Mama beware: Quite old-fashioned in places, for instance around the theme of marriage / dowry I change the language w...

The Princess and the Warrior

By Dunacn Tonatiuh

This is a very beautiful and romantic story set in ancient South America. After numerous suitors woo the princess inspired by her beauty, she chooses the man who is inspired by her kind heart. He promises to always stay by her side and keeps his promise. The images are gorgeous and there are a few Spanish words dropped in. (The only thing I change when reading this book - is "her father lets him marry his daughter" ... to "her father give...

What’s your stay-sane goddess ritual?

My stay-sane goddess ritual is a combination of yoga and flower essences. I recently completed a yoga challenge, which was really a ritual of carving out time for myself every single day. It meant prioritizing myself instead of putting my business and even my daughter's needs at the top of my daily schedule. When the challenge ended, I felt compelled to keep that ritual going! Even though I...

Children believe they can be anything. They don’t see color or gender or love as having any restrictions. Their default is openness – until the 'grown-up' world conditions it out of them.

Multicultural books, films and art are so incredibly important to share with our children. It is a fundamental part of their education and emotional intelligence.

Exposing our kids to cultures and people who don’t look like them helps us to raise connected and compassionate children who see every human b...

Hello Mamas ..

Just a little note to let you know I'm thinking of you and your children today. Along with many of you, I'm in a state of shock. I didn't get a wink of sleep ... just keep shaking my head in disbelief. It's a powerful day. One of those days we won't ever forget. It's a day that propels me with even more passion to stand together with all the children, particularly little girls, and to remind them over and over and over again how incredibly valuable they are: that their feminini...

What's your stay-sane Goddess Ritual?

Ginger Baths - I run a super-hot bath with powdered ginger, essential oils and salt. These baths are very special. The stress response in my body melts away as I unplug from my never-ending to-do list ... juggling my new tea business, running the household, being a mama and a devoted girlfriend. A deeply hot sweat session in the bath leaves me feeling fresh and restored.

If ther...

I’m Lucie, founder of Mischievous Goddess. I'm not yet a mom or an auntie and do not have hands-on experience in either of these roles. I was however a child once myself. I’m also trying to have a baby after a miscarriage. I work with kids on a regular basis and for many a year babysat kids of all ages. This was written to entertain and shine a light on subjects that are dear to my heart and to inspire all children to be wild, free, and most importantly themselves. I am not a childcare expert, or a certified teacher or nanny, or psychiatrist. All views expressed are my own.
